South Sudanese religious leaders gather in Manchester to discuss tribal violence

MANCHESTER — South Sudanese religious leaders from across the country are expected to be in Manchester this weekend to work on strategies for ending the tribal violence in South Sudan, according to one of the leaders of the group.

Monyroor Teng, pastor of South Sudanese Covenant Church, said pastors and members of South Sudanese congregations will meet at the Bethany Covenant Church, Bedford, Saturday and Sunday. He said about 150 people are expected from Nebraska, Virginia, Minnesota and the New England states.

Participants will include members of both the Dinka and Nuer tribes, which have been battling each other in South Sudan.

“We need to show the unity of Christians,” Teng said.
