Winning teams in Junior Solar Sprint announced

The winning teams in the Junior Solar Sprint competition held at Pinkerton Academy on Saturday have been announced.

The results are: the team that won first place for fastest car was "Diamonds" of the 7th grade from Gilbert H. Hood Middle School, which includes teacher Stephanie Smith and students Kamille Simon, Michelle Spera, Ethan Leger and Grace Gill. JSS is a national program that was developed to provide a hands-on opportunity for students to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts, creativity, and problem-solving skills as they design, construct, and race solar-powered cars, according to a news release.

“The Sun-daes” won most creative and original design. That team consists of 6th graders from Gilbert H. Hood Middle school and includes teacher Fran Leach and students Ashton Clarke, Monique Gingras, Abby Larnard, Katie Stupp and Josh Vachon.

First place for best construction quality went to team “Race for the Cure”, a 6th grade class from West Running Brook Middle School that includes teacher Barbara Dupont and members Kara Tinker, Elizabeth Hefferman, Julianna Hudson, and Kaitlyn Souza.
