Derry police seek burglar who was in occupied residences

DERRY — Police are investigating two burglaries that occurred this week while the residents were home.

And it’s possible the two crimes are linked to the same person because both residences are a short distance from each other, Capt. Vern Thomas said Wednesday.

.
In the first incident, an elderly woman in her 80s told police she was home on Tuesday night in her residence at 29 Birch St. when she confronted a man who walked out of her bedroom carrying a flashlight, Thomas said in a news release.
..
The man fled when she asked him what he was doing in her home.

Police responded to the residence at 9:37 p.m. They were assisted by a New Hampshire State Police K-9 unit that swept the area for over an hour but couldn’t find the man, Thomas said.
..
Officers later discovered that forced entry was made to the residence through a window. Nothing appeared to have been stolen, Thomas said.

The suspect is described as approximately 6’2’ tall, thin build and wearing “military-looking” clothing.
..
At 7:18 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to another burglary at 76 E. Broadway. The residents reported they heard sounds in their kitchen the night before at about 8 p.m. but dismissed it as possibly coming from a neighboring apartment, Thomas said. But on Wednesday, they discovered that a purse, wallet and tablet were missing. They believe someone entered through an unlocked door, stole the items and fled. There is no description of a suspect in the second crime, Thomas said.
..
No injuries were reported in either incident.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes is asked to contact the Derry Police at 432-6111.
