Police say prospective buyer stole collector's edition sneakers at sale arranged via Instagram

MANCHESTER — A 15-year-old who advertised Collector Edition Jordan 11 Retro Sneakers, white and black with patent leather on the sides, for sale for $320 on his Instagram account, went to Crystal Lake Saturday at about 6:45 p.m. to meet a prospective purchaser who had contacted him.

Police said Tyler Golles, 15, and his mother were parked in the lot when the prospective purchaser arrived on foot. The "buyer" inspected the sneakers briefly, then fled through the woods with them, to a waiting getaway vehicle, according to police.

Golles chased the thief and jumped onto the hood of the vehicle parked on Corning Road, stomping on the windshield and shattering it, police said.

The car accelerated, throwing the 15-year-old to the ground, police said.

Police responding to the Crystal Lake lot, were told the thief is a black male, 16 to 18 years old, 5-foot-10, with a muscular build.

He was wearing a green T-shirt and shorts, police said, according to police, the thief fled in a low-riding, dark green Honda, possible a Civic, with fancy rims.

Saturday morning mugging

Manchester police who met with a 53-year-old man in the emergency room at Catholic Medical Center at about 5:15 Saturday morning learned the man had been mugged while walking in the area of South Main Street, near Milford Street.

The victim told police a vehicle pulled up next to him and the driver got out and approached him, asking about his money. The victim said the driver then punched him in the face, knocking him to the gound. When the victim regained his composure, he realized his wallet, containing cash and credit cards, was missing from his pocket.

Officers noted the victim had swelling and bleeding on the right side of his face.The victim described his attacker as a white male in his 50s, about six feet tall and stocky. There was no description given for the vehicle or the mugger’s clothing.

Hide and seek arrest

Two officers who stopped a vehicle for a defective headlight in the area of Concord and Vine streets at about 3:40 Monday morning had observed the vehicle stop a few minutes earlier and a passenger get out and walk west on Concord Street.

During the vehicle stop, Officer Robert Bifsha noticed the passenger was now walking back towards them, but concealing himself behind a tree when Bifsha looked in his direction.

The passenger then entered the parking garage, hiding behind a pillar as he continued to watch the officers.

Sgt. Brandon Murphy went into the garage to check on the passenger, but the man fled, running out of the garage and onto Amherst Street, where Officer Rob McGowen was waiting. Dominick Stanin, 47, of Manchester, was charged with prowling and resisting arrest.

A reason for stopping car

When a police officer stopped a vehicle with defective taillights at about 10:25 p.m. Saturday on Spruce Street, the driver got out of the vehicle and ran, ignoring commands to stop.

But the driver was later spotted by detectives Todd Leshney and Rob Gravelle, who chased him through a Spruce Street yard, where he was wrestled to the ground and taken into custody.

Police said Jean-Claude Barmore, 21, of Manchester, was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana and charged with disobeying a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of a controlled drug.
