MANCHESTER - Second-seeded Pinkerton Academy of Derry got up early and often and never looked back in routing No. 6 Salem by a 18-10 score in NHIAA Division I girls' semifinal play at Southern New Hampshire University Saturday.

Pinkerton (17-3) will face the winner of Saturday's late game between No. 1 Souhegan of Amherst (17-2) and No. 4 Exeter (13-6) in the state championship game Tuesday at 5 p.m. at SNHU. Pinkerton is the defending DI champion.

The Astros led 4-0 in the first six minutes on a pair of goals from junior Maggie McCarthy and single tallies from Kennedy Daziel and Sierra Sanchez. Salem (10-9) broke through with 18:24 remaining in the first half on a goal from Elizabeth Twomey.

But another four-goal burst from Pinkerton made it 8-1. Salem managed goals from Twomey and Ashley Zannini to close out the half, but the Astros got four goals of their own to leave the score 12-4 at intermission.

Twomey scored in the opening minute of the second half to make it 12-4, but Pinkerton posted a pair from Amanda Szostak and Micaela Capozzo to push the lead to 14-4 and force running time.

From there, the Blue Devils outscored the Astros 6-4 to account for the final score. Salem's goals came from Twomey, Ashley Matthews, Lissa Perry, Kiley Keenan and Ashley Hayes (two goals).

Daziel led the Pinkerton offense with five goals and an assist. McCarthy (three goals, assist), Alison Davis (two goals), Sanchez (two goals) and Erin Coutts (goal, assist) contributed to the scoring.
