John Stark spikers sweep Londonderry

WEARE — Carson Dunn led the way with 11 kills to help John Stark to a 3-0 victory over Londonderry in an NHIAA opening-round boys’ volleyball match on Friday.

Brandon Dugay added seven kills and two aces, and Serge Boucher had six kills and four aces for the eighth-seeded Generals.

“The energy was there. Everybody brought their A-game,” said John Stark coach Phil Matzke, whose team advanced to play top-seeded Salem on Tuesday. “I think everyone clicked. Our centers and our hitters really connected today.”

Nick Stevens led ninth-seeded Londonderry with seven kills. Nick Winn had two aces. The Lancers ended their season at 6-11.

“Give kudos to Stark,” said Londonderry coach John Vaughn. “They had a fluid offense and really controlled the net against us. We played hard, but we came in with just one experienced player.”

The Generals won by scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-15. Londonderry was in position to win the second set, leading 23-20, before John Stark came roaring back.

Bishop Guertin 3, Keene 1: At Nashua, the seventh-ranked Cardinals (8-8) knocked off No. 10 Keene (6-11) in tournament play by scores of 25-27, 25-6, 25-12 and 25-18. BG will move on to face No. 2 Windham (14-2) on Tuesday at Windham.
