VA Medical Center plans observance on Monday
MANCHESTER —The Manchester VA Medical Center’s Memorial Day Observance will be Monday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. at the main entrance of the Medical Center.
In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the Granite State Room of the Community Living Center.
The Medical Center is planning to honor veterans who died within the past year while they were residentss in the Community Living Center or under the case management of the Palliative Care team.
The Manchester VA will also be joining in the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m.
All citizens are asked to pause for a moment of reflection and rededication.
Post 79 event
MANCHESTER — Post 79, The American Legion, hosts Frank Harlan trivia night at 7 on May 22.
On May 23, Kamikaze Karaoke with Jenn Mitchell starts at 7 p.m.
Manchester Post 79 welcomes all veterans and their families for a post-parade pot-luck buffet on Memorial Day, May 26.
Cribbage is canceled that night.
Rye ceremony set
RYE — The town will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony at Central Cemetery at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 26.
The ceremony will begin with a parade from the Veterans Monument and end on the green at the cemetery. The New Hampshire Police Association Pipes and Drums, the Rye Junior High School Band, the Rye Police and Fire Departments, veterans, Girl and Boy Scouts, horses and vintage fire trucks will participate.
The guest speaker will be Lt. Dillan Masellas of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Wounded warriors in Gilford pilot program
GILFORD — A pilot program May 28-30 at Gunstock Mountain Resort will give 18 wounded warriors the opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities and learn life skills that will help them transition into civilian life.
Run by the Patriot Resilient Leader Institute, the pilot program known as Camp Resilience will include Segway tours and aerial treetop adventures as well as fishing/boating on nearby Lake Winnipesaukee.
The life skills activities will focus on resume writing and job searching and will be conducted at the Lakes Region Community College in Laconia.
