Road to be closed for fallen Brentwood officer's procession

Exeter police said Monday that a portion of Route 27 through Exeter will be closed Wednesday morning to allow what’s expected to be a massive procession to the public memorial service for Brentwood police officer Stephen Arkell, who died in the line of duty in a shooting last week.
..
Police announced that both lanes of Route 27 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, from Old Town Farm Road in Exeter to the New England Dragway in Epping.

Drivers to the memorial, which starts at 11 a.m. at Exeter High School, will be allowed to reach the school on Route 27 until 9:30 a.m., the start time for the vehicle procession and march, which could draw thousands of officers from across the state and the nation.
..
Exeter police said Monday that no other road closures for this week had been planned.

In an event intended for law enforcement officers rather than the general public, staff at Stockbridge Funeral Home in Exeter said a walkthrough will be held at Exeter High School from 4 to 7 p.m. today.
..
Public calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Exeter High School announced that no classes for students will be held Wednesday; all after-school athletics and events that day are canceled.
..
Arkell was shot and killed May 12 when he responded to a domestic disturbance call at a home on Mill Pond Road in Brentwood.

His death has spurred a huge outpouring of support and assistance for the Arkell family from New Hampshire communities and law enforcement officers.
..
He leaves a wife and two teenage daughters.
