Roger Brown's Diamond Notes: Depth key for cohesive Goffstown
The Grizzlies avenged that season-opening loss and stretched their winning streak to 11 games by stomping Windham 19-5 Wednesday. Goffstown is alone at the top of the Division II standings with an 11-1 record.
Goffstown, which lost to Portsmouth in last year’s Division II championship game, is averaging nine runs per game. Pitcher/outfielder Chris Hood is 4-0 on the mound and hitting over .500. Perron and Tanner Putnam are the team’s other top pitchers. Putnam pitched a complete game when Goffstown beat Sanborn of Kingston in last year’s semifinals.
“We had a good nucleus coming back, but to be 11-1 at this point is a surprise. I know it’s a good team, but I think there are a lot of good teams out there.”
TIMBERLANE of Plaistow knocked off Concord, 1-0, Wednesday in a game that featured the two softball programs that met in last year’s Division I championship game. Amy Freeman scored from third base on Christina Nye’s sacrifice fly in the first inning.

PINKERTON Academy of Derry pitcher Chris Gerossie raised his record to 5-0 when he pitched a complete game in a 1-0 triumph over Nashua North on Wednesday.

RYAN TANGUAY tossed his second no-hitter of the season when Stevens of Claremont defeated Mascoma of Canaan, 8-0, Wednesday. Tanguay struck out 12 and walked three in the victory. … Coaches from Dartmouth and Yale clocked Hopkinton pitcher Jake Nelson at 92 mph during Monday’s 6-5 loss to Bow. … Lisbon, which is 9-0 in Division IV, is the only unbeaten baseball team in the state. … The Timberlane baseball team began the season by winning six of its first eight games, but Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Concord extended Timberlane’s losing streak to six games. The Owls, who played Exeter at home Thursday, failed to score more than two runs in four of the six losses. … The Goffstown softball team began the week in first place with a 9-1 record, but the Grizzlies have lost Division II games against Souhegan of Amherst (16-6), Portsmouth (7-3) and Windham (15-2) this week. … The Campbell of Litchfield softball team will try to hand Conant of Jaffrey its first loss when the teams play at Conant today. Conant beat Campbell 2-1 earlier this season. Conant enters the game 10-0 in Division III. Campbell is 7-2.
