Fire damages Hampton hotel

A wall fire caused moderate damage to several hotel rooms at the Marguerite Hotel in Hampton Thursday afternoon.

Crews responded to the blaze at 112 Ashworth Ave. just after 4:30 p.m., and the fire was contained within a half an hour. No one was injured.

The fire began in the wall of one of the hotel’s bathrooms before spreading to the adjacent unit. Both bathrooms were moderately damaged.

The unit above the room where the fire began also had moderate damage in the bathroom.

The hotel was under construction and unoccupied at the time.

The fire’s cause is being investigated, although the cause appers to be accidental, said Hampton fire Capt. David Mattson.

Crews from Hampton, Seabrook, Hampton Falls and Exeter responded to the scene. North Hampton, Portsmouth and Salisbury provided station coverage.
