Lyndeborough community aims to help local man injured in assault
LYNDEBOROUGH — A “Pickle Jar” sits on the counter of the Village Jar, seeking donations to help John “Pickle” Hyde, who needed to be hospitalized after being beaten and choked earlier this month.
Hyde, 41, was allegedly attacked on May 3 at 1550 Center Road. The assault happened between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. that Saturday. Two days later, police arrested Timothy Sullivan, 47, who lives where the alleged assault took place.
“During the investigation, it was determined that the injuries sustained to Hyde were very serious and one of the injuries was due to strangulation,” wrote Chief Rance Deware in a press release.
Sullivan is charged with first- and second-degree assault.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash and a probable cause hearing is scheduled for today in the 9th District Court-Milford District.
Sullivan was being held at Hillsborough County jail pending today’s hearing, police said.
Hyde was released from Massachusetts General Hospital Thursday after undergoing surgery, his sister said.
“He’s resting, but not comfortable and he’s in severe pain,” said his sister, Heather Ayers, who was caring for him on Monday.
“Nobody can wrap their brains around this, that it can happen to anyone, nevertheless to Pickle. He is always helping people. Like the ‘Pay It Forward’ thing, a few years ago a lady put something in the local paper to thank him that he plowed her driveway and sanded it, then just drove off without saying a word. He’s always helping people. He’s harmless and a sweetheart, it’s horrible,” said Ayers.
Lyndeborough resident and Fire Department Auxiliary Member Nadine Preftakes said the Lyndeborough Fire Department Auxiliary donated $200 to the “Pickle Jar” fund and the Fire Department is expected to discuss it at its next meeting.
“Pickle would help anybody. He helped work on the church renovations. He’s a woodworker and makes gorgeous wooden bowls. I purchased two at a fair,” said Preftakes.
An account has been established for donations for Hyde at the TD Bank in Milford.
