Vulture’s Row,” a feature film script written by Alfred Thomas Catalfo of Dover, earned a win in the thriller category and runner-up honors in the drama category at Nashville Film Festival Screenwriting Competition, which drew 1,511 international script entries.

“Vulture’s Row,” an adaptation of the novel “Betrayed” by New Hampshire author Brendan DuBois, was the only script to be selected as a finalist in more than one category in the contest, which culminated with an April awards ceremony. The script also was named grand prize winner in the Rhode Island International Film Festival Screenwriting Competition and a Top 20 finalist out of more than 2,500 submissions in the Slamdance Film Festival Screenwriting Competition.

Catalfo, an attorney, has written and directed seven short films. His latest, “Rocketship,” has been selected for Los Angeles’ 17th Annual Dances With Films festival May 29 through June 8 at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre.

“Rocketship” is a 15-minute family drama in which an unlikely bond is forged between a lonely boy and an elderly man claiming to be a former astronaut. Together, they transform a vintage vacuum cleaner into a rocketship for a surprising journey. The story is inspired by the rocketship sculptures of New Hampshire artist David Random, who fashions them from repurposed artifacts.

The film stars Russell Doucet, Tom Dunnington, Juston McKinney, Gregory Athans, Donna Phofolos and Michael Walsh, with Jeff Spires helming cinematography duty. “Rocketship” was shot on the Seacoast.
