NHIAA Softball: Salem girls roll, remain unbeaten

DERRY — Salem High’s softball team scored early and often — and stayed unbeaten. The Blue Devils tallied six runs in the first inning, eight in the third and four more in the fourth en route to an 18-2 win at Pinkerton of Derry on Friday. The game was shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule.

The Blue Devils (7-0) were led by Amanda Bickford, who had three hits, scored twice and knocked in two. The Blue Devils finished with 18 hits. Rachel Denning cracked a grand slam.

Salem turned over all but three players from last season’s team that reached the Division I semifinals. So veteran coach Harold Sachs is making it happen with a new group. “The entire infield is new, with the exception of the catcher,” said Sachs.

Rachel Towler went the distance for Salem, allowing five hits. She fanned seven.

Pinkerton (4-4) was led by Rachel Byrd, with an RBI triple, and Amanda Joncas, who also tripled.

Natalie Fabrizio added two hits.
