Norfolk ends Monarchs' postseason with 3-1 series victory

The Manchester Monarchs were eliminated from the AHL playoffs with a 3-2 loss at Norfolk Friday night.

The top-seeded Monarchs had not lost three consecutive games all season, but dropped three straight after winning Game 1 of the best-of-five series in Manchester last Friday.

The eighth-ranked Admirals got the winning goal from Max Sauve at 10:49 of the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie with a backhander past Manchester rookie goalie J.F. Berube.

Manchester captain Andrew Campbell tied the game at 2-2 at 4:29 of the third period. Campbell scored his first goal of the playoffs by camping on the post and converting a pass from Jordan Weal to beat John Gibson.

The Admirals had taken a 2-1 lead at 2:12 of the third period when Chris Wagner tipped a Nolan Yonkman shot from the right point to beat Berube.

The Monarchs broke a scoreless drought of 152:56 by finally beating Gibson to tie the game at 1-1 at 15:56 of the second period.

On the ensuing faceoff to start a Manchester power play, Weal won the draw cleanly to Andy Andreoff, who fired a shot past Gibson on the left side before he could get set.

Norfolk took a 1-0 lead 3:25 into the game, scoring the only goal of the first frame.

Nic Kerdiles netted the goal, taking a pass from Sami Vatenen and beating Berube.
