Gilmanton woman arraigned for allegedly slashing ex-husband
Lauria Kelley-Brandao, 37, of 126 Gale Road, Gilmanton, was allegedly arguing with her ex-husband, Jose Maia, in the garage area of his home at 82 Aaron Drive Thursday morning at about 8:15.
Court documents show Kelley-Brandao is accused of taking out a knife and swinging it at her ex-husband and, as he turned to shield himself, cutting him on the left side of his head and shoulder.
He was was taken to a local hospital for treatment of the slash wounds, but Sgt. Richard Brennan said the injuries are not life-threatening.
Brennan said the parents' routine is to exchange custody of their child at the Aaron Drive home where Maia now lives with his new wife.
Brennan said the child was already inside the home when her parents argued over who had custody because it was school vacation week. He said the child did not see what happened.
Because no plea can be entered to a felony charge, a probable cause hearing was set for May 21. Kelley-Brandao, who is free on $1,000 cash/surety bail, told Judge William Lyons she will hire her own attorney.
According to court documents, Kelley-Brandao is employed by the Spaulding Youth Center in Northfield.
