Goffstown attack too steady for Bow boys' lacrosse team

BOW — A steady Goffstown attack was too much for Bow to keep up with as the Grizzlies prevailed 15-6 on Tuesday.

It was the fourth straight win for Goffstown after an opening-day loss to Bedford. The Grizzlies improved to 4-1 while Bow dropped to 2-1.

Steve Dubois led all scorers with four goals and two assists for the Grizzlies. Brad Chapdelaine had three goals and an assist and Jack Carney had two goals with four assists.

The Falcons were led by Devin Calkins with two goals and three assists.

Goffstown coach Josh Lewis said his team took some lessons from that Bedford loss.

"We went up against one of the best teams in the state and we're fixing the mistakes we made," said Lewis. "We're working hard to fix what's wrong and find what's right and replicate it."

Goffstown wasted no time jumping on the Falcons, going up 2-0 inside the first two minutes of the game. The Grizzlies led 9-3 at the half and Bow kept slipping further behind.

"Transition is kind of our thing. We work the ball well. We keep our heads up," said Lewis. "We have a lot of unselfish players on this team looking to make the feed."

"We didn't get into our defense," said Bow coach Russ Mondello. "It was pretty easy for them to pick us apart."

Ball possession was fairly even between the two teams, but Goffstown got goals when it had the ball and the Falcons didn't.

"(Goffstown goalie Colin Holt) made some big saves, which gets your confidence up," said Mondello. "We'd hit him right in the stick when we had good shots. We didn't help our cause."

Mondello felt his team did not match up well with the Grizzlies. "We tried to get into a run game with them, which we really didn't want to do," said Mondello. "They have some really great athletes."
