Father of missing Conway teen says he wants custody of his daughter

ABIGAIL HERNANDEZ

CONWAY — In an Easter Day message, Ruben Hernandez wrote that he wants custody of daughter Abigail Hernandez, 15, when she returns home and said he fears she has run away.

Abigail was last seen leaving Kennett High School on Oct. 9. Since her disappearance, a large-scale search has been conducted by the FBI and state law enforcement agencies.

Ruben and Zenya Hernandez, who are divorced, continue to send their missing daughter messages on Facebook and through a volunteer website, www.bringabbyhome.com. About a month after Abigail's disappearance, Zenya Hernandez, who lives in North Conway, received a letter from her daughter, but there has been no subsequent contact. Police have not revealed the contents of the letter.

On Sunday, Ruben Hernandez, who lives in Bartlett, wrote on his Facebook page: "My Dearest Abby: I would like to wish you a Happy Resurrection Day.

"It's almost been seven months that you've been gone, and we all continue to worry about you. Once we hit the six month mark that you went missing I decided to take a leap of faith by writing a letter to your mother requesting full custody of you," he wrote.

"Abby I would also like to have your input, and the only way that I can think of to get it is to write this letter and hope that you will be able to read it and respond. It seems that your mother could be leaving this decision up to you, so for now I'll just wait and hope for a positive answer from her."

The FBI's Kieran Ramsey would not comment on Hernandez's letter.

"We are well aware of it, and I'm not going to characterize what he said one way or the other. These are the pleas of a parent whose child is missing and may be in danger," he said.

Zenya Hernandez could not be reached for comment.
