Monday at 140 Central St. Police said a woman was standing outside the apartment building when a teen she didn't know asked to use her phone. She handed it to him, and he ran off with it. The only description the woman could give of the teen is that he was black.
About 7 p.m., another woman standing in front of 35 Hanover St. was approached by a teen who asked if he could borrow her cellphone. He, too, fled with the phone once she handed it to him. He is described as a 15-year-old black teen with a shaved head, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He was wearing a black vest over a red hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes.
Police don't know if the same teen was involved in both thefts.
Two outdoor speakers, worth about $2,000, were removed sometime over the winter from two poles inside Precourt Park, adjacent to the Manchester South Little League.
A Little League official reported the theft on Monday when it was discovered at the park, which is off South Willow Street, behind Wendy's.
