Prepare to pay more to park in Manchester

MANCHESTER — A slate of downtown parking fee hikes received final approval on Monday.

The aldermen’s Committee on Accounts voted with little debate on Monday to formally enroll the new ordinances.

The fare hikes were already approved by the full board of aldermen.

The ordinances extend the downtown metered parking zone by roughly two blocks to the north, south and east. The standard 75-cents-per-hour charge would apply to the entire area. Some coin meters currently cost 50 cents an hour.

The enforcement hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Friday, would be extended to the entire area. Another ordinance will raise the cost of a monthly parking permit at the Millyard from $45 to $55. Permits at surface lots would go from $50 to $60. The monthly fee at the Victory Garage would go from $75 to $85. There would also be a new downtown parking permit for residents, which would cost $100 a year.

The hikes are projected to generate $504,000 in additional revenue for the city.
