NORTH HAMPTON — Witnesses to a crash on Interstate 95 rushed to the aid of the driver after her vehicle hit a piece of construction equipment, pulling the 20-year-old woman from the her burning pickup truck, state police said

Amy Strong, 20, of Hampton, was seriously hurt in the crash.

Police said Strong’s truck ran off the road and hit the construction equipment off the right side of the highway. Motorists who saw the crash rushed to the scene, broke the rear window, and pulled Strong to safety.

Strong was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital suffering what police said were serious injuries. Speed and alcohol did not appear to be factors in the crash, investigators said.
