Windham police investigate recent vandalism, suspicious fire

WINDHAM - Police are investigating a string of vehicle vandalism incidents that occurred over the past month in a Windham neighborhood.According to Police Chief Gerald Lewis, a Faith Road resident's car tires were slashed while parked in the driveway during the evening hours of April 5.Early Sunday morning, police and fire officials responded to a vehicle fire at 5 Ridgemont Road.The fire's cause remains undetermined, though surveillance videos from a Faith Road residence captured a lone suspect waking toward the Scotland Road intersection carrying what appeared to be a gasoline container.“This person did pour an amount of unknown liquid onto a driveway,” Lewis said in an email, describing the suspect as wearing a hooded sweatshirt, jeans and sneakers.Police noted the footage was captured around 2:45 a.m. - about a half-hour before the Ridgemont Road fire was reported.Anyone with information regarding any of the recent vandalism/arson incidents is asked to contact Windham Police Detective Chris Van Hirtum at 434-5577 or
