DERRY — The Pinkerton Academy girls' lacrosse team is off to a 2-0 start after an overpowering 16-4 victory over Salem Friday.

The Astros' Erin Coutts led all scorers with four goals and three assists. Teammate Maggie McCarthy had three goals and two assists.

For Salem, Ashley Hayes, Kiley Keenan, Liz Twomey and Lissa Perry each had a goal. It was the season opener for the Blue Devils.

Pinkerton got on the scoreboard just 13 seconds into the game. Within 10 minutes the Astros led 6-1. With 7:49 left in the first half, the Astros had a, 11-1 lead and the game was in run time.

"We started out the way we wanted and controlled things early," said Astros coach Rob Daziel. "We executed what we wanted to execute and didn't miss a beat."

For Salem coach Faith Wahlen, it wasn't the start she was hoping for against the defending Division I champion Astros."There's a lot to work on," she said. "Many more to come. It's Pinkerton. They knew what to expect."
