NHIAA Roundup: Hood pitches Goffstown past Souhegan

Chris Hood threw a complete game to collect the victory as the Goffstown High baseball team raised its Division II record to 2-1 by beating Souhegan of Amherst, 9-2, Friday in Amherst.

Hood and Mike Bailey each had three hits for the Grizzlies, which received two-hit performances from Kyle Indingaro, Ben Genest and Tim Riehl. Thomas Bennett had a pair of hits for Souhegan, 0-2.

Nashua North 13, Salem 3: At Salem, Anthony Garuti's three-run single was the big blow in a six-run fourth inning that led the Titans, now 2-1, to the win. The game was tied 3-3 going into the fourth. Salem is 0-1.

Garuti went three-for-four with four runs batted in and Ricky Constant was three-for-three for North. Tim Hyland picked up the win in relief of starter Steve Waible.

Pinkerton 3, Keene 2: At Derry, Chris Gerossie tossed a complete game to help the Astros improve their Division I record to 2-0. Gerossie struck out seven. Stephen Bianco led Keene with two hits and an RBI.

Derryfield 2, Sunapee 1: Derryfield of Manchester (1-2) earned its first win of the season on a one-out, walk-off RBI single by Rob Rizos in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kyle Slevira was dominant on the Derryfield mound with 12 strikeouts while allowing just three Sunapee (0-1) hits. Dillion Wright had two hits and scored the winning run for the Cougars, while Sawyer Strong drove in the first Derryfield run. Sunapee's James Fitzgerald struck out 12 Derryfield batters in just five innings of work before being relieved in the sixth inning.

Campbell 8, Conant 0: At Litchfield, right-handed pitcher Connor Sahlin tossed a two-hitter and struck out 13 to pace the Cougars, who are 2-1. Catcher Zack Byers and Vinny Bucci each went three-for-three for Campbell. Byers had a home run and Bucci had two runs batted in. Conant dropped to 0-2.

Londonderry 9, Spaulding 4: At Rochester, Londonderry exploded for nine runs in the second and third innings to improve to 2-0. Geoff Kayo, Mike Ryan, Tom Corey and Nick Muston each had two hits for the Lancers. Musto allowed six hits in five innings for the win on the mound.


Spaulding 9, Londonderry 0: At Londonderry, senior Sammi West allowed three hits, struck out 17 and walked one to lead the Raiders. who improved to 2-1. Spaulding had 13 hits and scored two runs in the fourth inning to open the scoring. Spaulding broke things open with five runs in the seventh. Julie Hamilton had a double for Londonderry, 1-1.

Windham 9, Milford 7: At Milford, The Jaguars jumped on Milford for eight runs in the first three innings and held on for the win to improve to 2-0. Milford fell to 2-1.

Erin Tyrell and Jen Dupuis each went three-for-three for Milford. Tyrrell scored four runs and had an RBI and Dupuis scored twice and knocked in two. Rachel Vafides was three-for-four for Windham and Jamie Cleasby picked up the complete game win.

Pelham 7, Farmington 1: At Farmington, Pelham did all of its scoring in the top of the sixth and improved to 2-0 in Division III. Jordan Parece piched a complete game and limited Farmington to three hits. She struck out eight.

Boys' lacrosse

Milford 18, Kingswood 10: At Milford, Ross Briggs and Liam Shea each scored four goals to lead Milford to a win in its opener. Evan Wandrey added three goals and Harrison Urda, Max Urda and Tyler Duball had two apiece. Harrison Urda had four assists and Max Urda three. Adam Audet made eight saves for the win.

Maddy Tetreault had five goals and Owen Gonya a pair for Kingswood, 1-2.

John Stark 17, Stevens 1: At Weare, Brody Fredericks had four goals and three assists and Ryan Gordon and Daniel Medvetz each had three goals to lead the Generals in their opener. Colby Decotis, Jacb Blanchette and Matt Richard added a couple of goals each. Stevens is 0-2.

Girls' lacrosse

Derryfield 16, Plymouth 3: At Derryfield, Polly Carter had six goals and Brynn Polgrean five to lift the Cougars in the season opener for both teams.

Carter added two assist and Polgrean had one. Emma Garfield and Madi Kochanek each had two goals. Cat Green made 13 saves for Derryfield.
