Four burglaries reported in Manchester on Thursday

MANCHESTER — Police investigated four residential burglaries reported Thursday, including one discovered when residents of a Brown Avenue home awakened.

In that incident, the burglar or burglars entered the home, apparently through a window, while residents were sleeping upstairs, and took a purse containing assorted ID and credit cards, leaving through the back door.

Police responded to a Reed Street residence about 6 p.m., where they were told someone had pried open an apartment door and taken several electronic items and assorted jewelry, sometime after 1 p.m.

The third burglary, which involved the removal of copper pipes from the basement of a Notre Dame Avenue residence, was discovered when the first floor resident went to the basement to find out why there was no hot water.
Sections of copper pipe had been removed from the basement of the apartment building, causing minor flooding. There were no signs of forced entry.

The last burglary was reported at about 9:40 p.m. Thursday, when the owner of a Silver Street building flagged down an officer, telling him several power tools had been removed from the common basement area.
The officer noticed makeshift bedding in the basement, an indication someone had been sleeping there.
