Police accuse man of trying to sell guitars, amps taken in Manchester burglary

MANCHESTER — A city man is charged with theft after police said he tried to pawn two stolen guitars and a pair of amplifiers at Manchester Music Mill, 329 Elm St.

The owner of the merchandise stolen from Empire Elite Marketing, 530 Chestnut St., discovered the items were missing Monday morning when he arrived at work and found the business burglarized. He called police but also alerted Manchester Music to the theft, asking them to keep an eye out for the stolen property.

When Emmanuel Mathews, 20, of 29 Prospect St., and another man entered Manchester Music Mill Monday night about 6:30 p.m. with the alleged stolen property, the manager tried to stall until police could get there.

One man left the store and got into a vehicle with several other people, which drove off, leaving the scene before officers arrived.

Police continue to investigate to try and identify Mathews' companions and how he came into possession of the stolen property.
