Renovation work continues at Salem elementary schools

SALEM — Some students at the Soule Elementary School are on the move this week as the renovation project at the school continues.

“The big news at the Soule School is the completion of four spaces in the gymnasium that students are moving into,” said Superintendent Michael Delahanty.

.
Final preparations for the move were made over the weekend so students could make the move on Monday.

While there will be high temporary walls separating the classroom spaces from each other and from the construction work at the school, Delahanty said the school will continue to monitor the noise levels to make sure it is a suitable work space for students.
..
Work is also continuing at the guidance office, nurse’s station, and faculty room at the Soule School.

Renovations at the Fisk Elementary School, the other large portion of the district’s second phase of elementary school renovations, remain slightly behind schedule.
..
Delahanty said there is a possibility that some modest amount of work may have to be completed after the beginning of the new school year in September.

However, Delahanty said the contractor for the project may be able to put additional crews to work at the Fisk School if work at the Soule School is completed ahead of schedule.
..
Delahanty said the first move of students into modified gymnasium spaces at the Fisk School is scheduled for the week after spring vacation. At that time, two classrooms will be moved to the gym so contractors can begin work renovating classroom space in that school.
