AG continues investigation in search for missing Abby Hernandez

CONWAY — The search for Abigail Hernandez, 15, is continuing with law enforcement officials reporting they are looking at new directions.

Senior Associate Attorney General Jane Young said investigators from the state police, the Conway police department and the FBI continue to work in North Conway and from a distance to find Hernandez, who was last seen walking home from Kennett High School on Oct. 9.

It's been more than six months since she disappeared.

"The team of investigators has been looking at certain pieces of evidence, and they continue to have dialogue with (Hernandez's mother, Zenya Hernandez)," Young said.

Young has been a part of several missing person investigations, some of which reach a point at which law enforcement activity calms or ceases.

"This isn't a case where we've reached the end," she said. "There remains a lot of activity in this case."

And there is still hope. "There has to be hope, for Zenya and Abby's sake," she said.

On Wednesday night, the anniversary of Abigail's disappearance, Zenya Hernandez and a group of friends gathered at the Hernandez home in North Conway.

"We had a small get together at Zenya's, with just close family and friends, people who really love and miss Abby," said Amanda Smith, one of the volunteers who have been working to find Hernandez with Facebook and Web pages dedicated to her."We talked about what a great kid Abby is. Loving, compassionate, kind, smart. It was an amazing show of support to Abby, her mom and sister," Smith said.

Abigail's friends made a banner saying "We Love You," on which they wrote messages of love to Abigail.

"We want Abby to know that we will never stop looking for her. We will never lose hope," Smith said.

The Bring Abby Home Facebook page now has 8,362 "likes," Smith said. The Web page has had more than 70,000 visitors.
