Peterborough deliberative session tonight talks money

PETERBOROUGH — Town Meeting season begins a discussion of a $12.4 million budget at the deliberative session tonight at 7 at the Town House.

The deliberative session is an opportunity for voters to discuss and possibly amend warrant articles up for a vote during the ballot voting session of Town Meeting on Tuesday, May 13, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Town Hall.

The proposed $12,385,899 budget represents a 4 percent increase over last year’s $11,878,659 budget.

Other articles up for discussion include several capital reserve fund requests, including a call for $100,000 for the Fire Department Management Capital Reserve Fund, $17,500 for the Financial Management Software/Hardware Capital Reserve Fund, $15,000 for the Geographic Information System Capital Reserve Fund and $55,000 for the Equipment/Fleet Management Capital Reserve Fund.

Voters will also have a chance to discuss a petition article that calls for a state resolution to “Get Big Money out of Politics.”

Following the ballot voting on May 13, the open session of Town Meeting is planned Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m.

Open session articles include a request for $700,000 for a municipal water supply well project on Summer Street, an article asking to spend $240,000 to enter a lease to purchase agreement for a replacement ambulance for the fire and rescue department, and request to spend up to $80,000 to study the construction of a new parking lot downtown behind the G.A.R. Hall.

The open session of Town Meeting will also take up the budget if it is not approved by voters at the polls.
