Fisher Cats suffer first loss of year

Pitching wasn't a problem for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in their first two games this season, but that changed Saturday night.

The Fisher Cats carried a three-run lead into the bottom of the eighth inning, but Trenton scored five runs in its final two at-bats to post a 6-5 Eastern League victory at Arm & Hammer Park.

Trenton's Yeral Sanchez scored the game-winning run on a Mason Williams single in the bottom of the ninth.

The Fisher Cats trailed 5-4 entering the ninth, but tied the game when Mike Crouse tripled and scored on an Aaron Munoz sacrifice fly.

Trenton erased a three-run deficit in its half of the eighth, which featured a hit batter, a walk, two wild pitches and three hits (two singles and a triple). The Thunder took a 5-4 lead when Rob Segedin scored on a Gary Sanchez triple.

It was the first loss for the Fisher Cats, who beat Trenton 6-0 Thursday and 7-3 Friday.

Randy Boone took the loss. He allowed two runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings. New Hampshire starting pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx held Trenton to one run on three hits in the first seven innings.

New Hampshire received home runs from left fielder Ryan Schimpf and third baseman Andy Burns.
