Maple Suites to host lunch for veterans in Dover

DOVER – Maple Suites Senior Independent Living will host a free luncheon for Seacoast area veterans at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.

The facility is located at 30 Holiday Drive.

March 29 is National Vietnam Veteran's Day, when all who served, but especially those who served in Vietnam, will be saluted.

Seacoast veterans from all branches and all wars are invited to attend the luncheon prepared by Executive Chef Scott Laurent.

More than three dozen veterans from World War II, Korea and Vietnam live at Maple Suites.

If you are a veteran and would like to attend, RSVP by calling 742-8820.

Post 79 events

MANCHESTER — American Legion Post 79 will hold a trivia night on Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m.

There will be a meat raffle at 1 p.m. on March 30.

Wraps or subs will be sold for $5.

Meredith post event

MEREDITH — The American Legion Post 33 is hosting meat bingo at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 29.

The Meredith Village Cemetery contacted the Legion concerning five graves in the cemetery — three from the Revolution and two from the War of 1812 — that do not have granite grave markers traditionally placed at veterans graves.

It appears that these graves were moved to the cemetery from other grave yards in the area due to construction.

The Legion approached the VA grave administration department and were told that these veterans were entitled to the traditional granite grave markers provided by the VA, but the request had to come from a direct family member.

Since that was not possible, Meredith veterans and the post stepped forward and are running this meat bingo event to help fund the markers.

Donations are being accepted to help.

Post 27 event

LONDONDERRY — The American Legion Post 27, located at 6 Sargent Road, will host a celebration of the Vietnam 50th Anniversary Commemorative Recognition Day from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.

A pot-luck lunch will be served.

The post invites veterans who are not members to join the celebration.
