Man who beat 2 people inside Portsmouth home to plead guilty
Terrence Hartley, of Clinton, Maine, struck a plea deal with county prosecutors prior to going on trial in Rockingham County Superior Court.
Terms of the plea deal have not yet been made public, but the first-degree assault charges are punishable by up to 7 1/2 to 15 years in state prison.
Portsmouth police were called to search the Maple Haven neighborhood. Hartley was found and taken into custody after a brief search of the neighborhood.
Hartley is also a registered sex offender in Maine, according to state records.
That state’s sex offender web site says that Hartley is required to register for life due to his prior sexual assault convictions. The state of Maine listed Hartley as a resident of Hampton.The burglary and drug possession charges are also felonies and punishable by state prison time. Hartley is expected to change his plea on Friday in Rockingham County Superior Court.
