Keene man claims $5M lottery prize
The winner of the $5 million Mega Millions prize came forward Monday to claim his prize.
John Walker of Keene bought his winning ticket at the Park Avenue Deli & Market, 30 Park Ave., Keene, for the drawing on Friday.
The $5 million ticket marks the largest Mega Millions winning ticket sold in New Hampshire since the New Hampshire Lottery began offering the game in January of 2010. Walker will take home $3,750,000 after federal taxes. The Park Avenue Deli & Market receives $30,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Walker is not the only winner; Anthony Collins of Manchester also came forward Monday to claim his $100,000 Gimme 5 top prize.
When Walker bought his Mega Millions ticket last week, he "megaplied" it for $1 more per set of numbers. With the megaplier number 5, $1 million was multiplied by 5 to generate the $5 million prize.
The winning Mega Millions numbers for Friday, March 21, were: 2 23 30 35 53 and the Mega Ball: 10. Mega Millions tickets cost $1 per play. Drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m.
Collins bought his winning ticket at the Worthens Irving, Route 101 West in Bedford, on Friday. This is the sixth $100,000 winning Gimme 5 ticket sold in New Hampshire and the 11th top prize sold throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
The winning Gimme 5 numbers in the Friday, March 21, drawing were: 3 17 31 33 34.
