Barrington man arrested follow accident that closed Rochester road Saturday morning
ROCHESTER – Portland Street was briefly closed due to an alcohol-related accident that snapped a utility pole early Saturday morning.
Police, firefighters and emergency personnel responded around 1:24 a.m. after a vehicle struck a utility pole in the area of 319 Portland St. As a result, the pole snapped in half and wires fell onto the road and on top of the vehicle, according to police.
Upon arriving, officers learned that the driver – who was later identified as Jeffrey Call, of 50 Province Road in Barrington – had allegedly left the scene. He was eventually found a short distance away with the help of witness statements and the local K-9 team, according to police.
Call was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and conduct after an accident. He was released on $2,000 personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in the 7th Circuit District Court April 7 at 8 a.m.
A section of Portland Street was briefly closed while police conducted their investigation and the vehicle, which sustained heavy front-end damage, was towed from the scene.
