Porch fire put out quickly in Manchester

MANCHESTER — Quick actions by tenants and a fire company kept a fire on a porch from spreading to an Everett Street house Tuesday night, District Fire Chief Al Poulin said.

Poulin said tenants at the 32 Everett St. home noticed the fire, which was reported shortly before 9 p.m., and were dousing it with water by the time a fire company arrived. When it did, the company had the fire knocked down within a minute, he said.

“The potential was there” for a worse fire, he said. The tenants and fire company “really averted a catastrophe here.”

Poulin said the tenants reported they’d been smoking on the porch before the fire, but that investigators hadn’t yet confirmed the cause of the blaze.

Nobody was injured, he said.
