Bow voters reject public safety building proposal

BOW - An overflow crowd of voters flooded the Bow High School auditorium Thursday night and rejected the town's proposed $6.8 million proposal for a new public safety building.

The 425-257 no vote on Article 3 on the town warrant came one year after a $7.7 million proposal for the same building fell 48 votes short of a two-thirds majority at the 2013 Bow Town MeetingOne resident who voted against the article was Van Mosher, who said Bow offered one of the lowest tax rates in the state when he moved to town in 1986. The town is now among the highest in New Hampshire, he added."Our tax rate has skyrocketed and unfortunately our property values have stayed flat," he said. "The building itself was very luxurious ... we call it the 'Garage Mahal' because it's very luxurious and extravagant for a town that's been stressed by taxes."Town Manager David Stack said this year's proposal was a direct response to last year's narrow defeat of the more expensive proposal.

"It wasn't really clear cut what the will of the townspeople was, so selectmen came to the conclusion that part of it was cost and other part timing," he said.Because the discussion on the public safety station took up the majority of the four-hour meeting Thursday, Bow residents will reconvene at 7 p.m. on March 24 to decide on the remaining warrant
