Gov. Hassan to visit to NH Veterans Home on St. Patrick's Day
TILTON — Gov. Maggie Hassan will celebrate the wearing of the green with the residents of the New Hampshire Veterans Home on St. Patrick's Day, Monday, March 17.
The governor will be greeted by NHVH Commandant Margaret LaBrecque and join residents as they assemble for their annual St. Patrick's Parade, which starts around 2:15 p.m. The parade will make its way through the facility's main hallways to the town hall area, where the governor will speak. Afterward residents will enjoy a holiday performance by entertainer Bernie Dougherty, followed by refreshments.
The New Hampshire Veterans Home is located at 139 Winter St.
50th anniversary Vietnam War Commemorative Recognition Day
LONDONDERRY — American Legion Post 27 will host a celebration of the 50th anniversary Vietnam War Commemorative Recognition Day on Saturday, March 29, from 1 to 5 p.m. A potluck lunch served will be served. All current members and their guests are welcomed. The post also invite any veterans to join the celebration.
Post 27 is at 6 Sargent Road.
Derry post plans meat shoot, penny social
DERRY — VFW Post 1617 will hold a meat shoot on Friday from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Music will be provided by B&B. On Sunday, March 16, the post's Ladies Auxiliary will hold a penny social at 2 p.m.
Proceeds from both events will benefit veterans and community projects. The post is located at 18 Railroad Ave. For more information. call 432-9702.
Sweeney Post plan St. Patrick's Day dinner
MANCHESTER — Henry J. Sweeney Post 2 planning the following events:
• Friday, March 14: Sons of the American Legion will hold an evening of entertainment and dancing to Roxanne and the Voodoo Rockers from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Members and guests are welcome. Admission is free.
• Saturday, March 14: The Post 2 American Legion baseball committee will host its annual St. Patrick's Day dinner featuring corned beef and cabbage with all the trimmings served at 6 p.m. followed by dancing to the Rico Barr Band until 11 p.m. This is a major fundraiser in support of the Post 2 sports program. Tickets are $15 per person, available at the bar.
• Tuesday, March 21: The monthly Swing is the Thing session performance by the Freese Brothers Big Band. The public is invited to this no charge presentation.
All events are held at the recently renovated smoke-free facility at 251 Maple St. For information, call 623-9145.
Post 79 trivia night, meat raffle
MANCHESTER — American Legion Post 79, 35 W. Brook St., will hold trivia night at 7 tonight.
On Sunday, March 16, the post will hold its St. Patrick's Day meat raffle at 1 p.m. Reuben's with homemade French fries will be served for $5.
The post also holds cribbage nights on Mondays at 6: 30 p.m. The cost is $5.
