Maple madness comes to Laconia

LACONIA – Prescott Farm, a 160-acre working farm owned by a private foundation and managed by the N.H. Audubon Society, will host Maple Sugar Madness programs Saturdays in March.

The programs will allow visitors to participate in many of the processes of making maple syrup, from tapping the trees to tasting the finished product. Saturday sessions are held at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

The farm has been owned by the Prescott family for more than 200 years, established by Col. Dudley Prescott of the 10th Regiment NH Militia, who served in the Revolutionary War at the age of 19 and due to his war service was able to acquire land grants in 1796 and 1797.

The farm ceased operations in the 1950s and today offers environmental education programs throughout the year including camps, public programs, field trips, and long-term partnerships with local elementary schools.

The farm is located at 928 White Oaks Road, Laconia.

The program is also offered to school groups and other groups during the week. For more information, call 366-5695.
