Dalton voters elect new selectman, reject police vehicle

DALTON – Voters on Tuesday approved a nearly $800,000 operating budget and elected a new selectman but said “no” to buying a vehicle for the police department.

The article to allow the selectmen to enter into a four-year lease/purchase for a 2014 Ford Explorer 4X4 costing $26,417 failed, but it was the only one of the eight articles on the town warrant that was defeated.

In the sole contested race for town office, Nancy McVetty received 196 votes while incumbent Vic St. Cyr got 63 for the three-year seat on the board of selectmen.

Republican Joseph Kenney received 140 votes and Democrat Michael Cryans got 111 votes in the special race for the District 1 seat on the executive council.
