Fire destroys vacant Nashua building

March 09. 2014 10:18AM

A suspicious fire swept through a vacant building on Bridge Street in Nashua Saturday night, extensively damaging the structure that was due to be torn down.

The fire at 2 Bridge St. was first reported at about 6:45 Saturday night in a building that formerly housed an automobile repair shop on the first floor with several apartments above.'

The building was vacant at the time of the fire and no one was believed to have been inside the building.

A second alarm brought mutual aid from Merrimack, Hudson, Londonderry and Tyngsborough, Mass., to provide coverage. As Nashua firefighters worked to control the flames, the temperature dropped to around the freezing mark, creating a hazard. Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the original building.

Since the building was due to be razed, utility service to the structure had been turned off. An investigation into the fire, which was termed suspicious by fire commanders on the scene, is continuing.
