College Roundup: UNH men ousted from hoop tourney
The Catamounts extended their winning streak to 11 games and move on to today's semifinals with a 22-9 overall record. UNH closes out the season at 6-24.
But the Catamounts ran off the last 16 points of the first half to take control of the game.
UNH managed to stay within 10 points much of the second half, but could not get closer than nine points.
Senior forward Patrick Konan led New Hampshire with 19 points, senior guard Jordon Bronner had 14 and freshman Daniel Dion added 10. Senior center Chris Pelcher led the Wildcats with six rebounds and added six points.
The America East men's and women's semifinals will both be played today in Albany.
Vermont plays the winner of a game between No. 4 Albany and No. 5 UMBC in one semifinal.
The No. 3 UNH women play No. 2 Stony Brook today at 1:15. The winner advances to the championship game in Albany on Monday at 4 p.m. against either No. 1 Albany or No. 5 Hartford.
Salem State 5, Plymouth State 1: At Salem, Mass., the Panthers led 1-0 on a goal by Londonderry's Ryan Callahan, but Salem State took control of the MASCAC championship game with three second period goals.
Albany 13, Dartmouth 7: At Hanover, the Great Danes and Big Green were tied at 7-7 in the second half and Albany scored the last six goals to stay undefeated at 4-0. Dartmouth fell to 3-2.
UNH's Nicole Grote and Laura Puccia both scored two goals apiece and and Laura McHoul had three points. Becca Graves had a goal and an assist.
UMass was led by Sam Rush (five goals) and Erica Eipp (one goal, four assists.
University of New England 11, Plymouth State 9: Freshman Dan Auger of Nashua scored three goals to help lead the Nor'Easters past the Panthers. Senior Chris Annunciata had five goals to lead Plymouth State in its season opener.
