When the Dartmouth College hockey team visits Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a first-round, best-of-three ECAC tournament series this weekend, the Big Green will bring along the league's goaltender of the month.
Sophomore Charles Grant, a key to the Big Green's late-season surge (4-1-1), earned the honor on Wednesday. He was 4-0-1 in the February games, with a .964 save percentage and a 1.18 goals-against average. Included in those games was a 1-0 shutout at Cornell.
The Big Green finished 10th in the ECAC and battle seventh-place RPI tonight and tomorrow at the Engineers' Houston Fieldhouse. A third game, if necessary, will be played Sunday night.
PSU goes for title
The Plymouth State University men's hockey team, on the strength of its 3-2 semifinal victory over Westfield State on Tuesday, will play Salem State for the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference title on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Salem, Mass.
Andrew Wigg, Sandown's Zach Fox and freshman Ian McGilvrey, the MASCAC rookie of the year, scored for the Panthers on Tuesday. Sophomore goalie Gordon Ceasar made 29 saves for the win.
PSU is 14-10-2 overall. Saturday marks the Panthers' third straight MASCAC championship game appearance. PSU edged Salem State in double overtime to win the 2012 crown.
