Superintendent named for SAU 19

GOFFSTOWN — Brian Balke has been named the new superintendent of schools for SAU 19, serving the communities of Dunbarton, Goffstown and New Boston.

After about eight months of searching for a new superintendent, the SAU 19 School Board unanimously voted for Balke for the position.

Balke has served as the SAU 19’s interim superintendent since July 1, 2013, after taking the position vacated by Stacy Buckley, who is now superintendent of the Newfound Area School District in Bristol.

Before accepting his interim post, Balke served SAU 19 for five years as assistant superintendent of student services.

“Brian brings a strong vision, knowledge of the communities, a commitment to excellence and humility to the role. ‘What is best for kids’ is the question that he often asks and indeed this question serves as a compass in his decision-making,” said Keith Allard, SAU 19 School Board chairman. “These are the leadership qualities that the communities of Goffstown and New Boston shared a desire for in public forums earlier this year.”

Balke has lived in New Boston for many years with his wife, Rebecca, and their two sons.

In addition to being a school administrator, Balke is pursuing his doctorate in education at Rivier University with an anticipated completion date of 2017. Balke also teaches students in the graduate programs at Southern New Hampshire University and Rivier University.

“I have never lost my passion for teaching. I am grateful to be able to share my love of education and experience with the next generation of teachers and school administrators,” said Balke.

Balke brings a strong educational background and experience to the position, said Allard. Balke has worked in public education for the past 20 years, and prior to working with the SAU 19, he was director of pupil services for the Londonderry School District.

The SAU 19 School Board members said they are pleased to name Balke as superintendent.

“Brian brings a passion and dedication to the children in our schools through clear communication, dynamic leadership and a commitment to transparency. We are very pleased to have Brian continue to serve our school districts as the superintendent,” said Wendy Lambert, chairman of the New Boston School Board.

Dian McCarthy, chairman of the Goffstown School Board, agrees that Balke was the right choice.

“Brian has exhibited commitment, leadership, passion and vision for the Goffstown School District. We are excited to have Brian as our superintendent,” McCarthy said.
