Athletics Dept. employee at UNH fired over 'invasion of privacy'

DURHAM — A staff member from the University of New Hampshire's Athletics Department has been fired amid a police investigation into allegations of misconduct involving invasion of privacy.

According to a statement from UNH, administrators were informed 10 days ago of misconduct allegations against a part-time member of the athletic staff involving student athletes.

The UNH Police Department launched an investigation and the staffer was put on administrative leave and eventually fired.

UNH spokesman Erika Mantz would not comment beyond the statement, which did not identify the staff member.
The university has offered support and counseling to the "affected students," the statement said.

, adding, "We will stand by them as a community and their well-being remains our top priority. We have learned from the experiences of other institutions and our own."
UNH said it works to ensure a safe campus community for its students.

"Our goal and responsibility are to provide an environment where our students have access to a world-class education inside and outside of the classroom. Those who do not share these priorities do not have a place at our university. UNH will make our campus community stronger and refuse to allow one person to undermine our work to provide a safe learning environment for our students," the statement said.
