Big Green to visit RPI in ECACs

The Dartmouth College hockey team will visit Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in a first-round ECAC tournament series next weekend.

The Big Green’s 2-1 loss to Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y., on Saturday night ensured a road trip. They are the No. 10 seed in the tournament, and will play at seventh-seeded RPI in a best-of-three series Friday, Saturday and Sunday, if necessary.

Dartmouth, which is 8-17-4 overall and 7-13-2 in the ECAC, was swept by RPI this year, losing 7-1 at home and 4-2 in Troy, N.Y.

The Big Green were relatively hot down the stretch, going 4-1-1 over the final three weekends of the regular season. Saturday night, they were held in check by Colgate goalie Eric Mihalik, who stopped 34 shots, allowing only Eric Neiley’s third-period tally.

Dartmouth was 0-for-6 on the power play.

Dartmouth goalie Charles Grant, who blanked Cornell one night earlier, stopped 26 of 28 shots on Saturday night.

By virtue of its win, Colgate locked up the No. 2 seed in the league tournament and will have a first-round bye next weekend.

Women’s hockey

Clarkson 2, Dartmouth 0: In Potsdam, N.Y., the Dartmouth women concluded their season at 9-20-1 overall, 8-13-1 in the ECAC, after a second straight defeat in the ECAC best-of-three quarterfinals.

The No. 3-seeded Golden Knights won Friday’s game as well, 2-0.

Senior goalie Lindsay Holdcroft kept Dartmouth in the game by making 28 saves, including 12 in the opening period.
