Salem senior housing development taking shape
SALEM — Construction on the Braemoor Commons senior housing development is under way and is getting high marks from some Planning Board members.
“If anyone has taken a ride out there, they can see that it is coming along to be a very beautiful development,” said Planning Board member Ron Belanger.Earlier this week, the Planning Board approved a change to the project’s site plan that will allow more covered parking at the two-building development for people over the age of 55.Construction on the project began last year, and work on the first building is under way, said Tim Peloquin of Promised Land Survey.
The building has 44 units, with 36 covered parking units underneath the building. According to Peloquin, the developer wanted to provide at least one covered parking spot for each unit in the development.
“Because this is for people who are 55 or older, the owner is seeking to do some carport locations, which would allow every resident to have one covered parking spot,” said Peloquin.
The Planning Board approved the special use permit for the three carports, one with 10 bays and two with five bays each. The special use permit was needed because the carports are within 50 feet of the property line on the site.
The carports are on spaces that were already laid out for parking. Because the carports take up more space than uncovered parking spots, however, the developer was also looking to add additional uncovered parking spots.
“We feel like this will be a betterment (for the project),” said Peloquin. “It will be more sightly, will cover the cars and will look nicer.”firstname.lastname@example.org
