Driver hits gas instead of brake, crashes into Epping Applebee's
EPPING — A driver mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake Tuesday night, causing his truck to take out the door used for take-out orders at Applebee's restaurant.
Police said Omer Chicoine, 70, of Manchester, was attempting to park his 2005 Chevy 1500 pickup truck around 6 p.m. when he stepped on the gas.
The truck plowed into the side of the building, damaging the brick wall, the door frame and the door next to the parking spots designated for "Carside To Go" orders.
Chicoine's passenger, Elaine Bournival, 66, of Manchester, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Exeter Hospital, police Capt. Jason Newman said.
The truck sustained moderate damage and was towed away from the restaurant located in the Epping Crossing shopping center.
Newman said no one working or dining inside the restaurant was injured in the mishap.
Chicoine is not expected to face charges, Newman said.
Applebee's general manager said the restaurant was open for normal business Wednesday, but declined further comment.
