Not Your Average Joe’s, Starbucks coming to Nashua

NASHUA — Not Your Average Joe’s, a restaurant chain with numerous locations primarily in metro-Boston and Rhode Island, and Starbucks plan to occupy the 9,000-square-foot pad currently occupied by Pier 1 Imports at Daniel Webster Plaza, Linear Retail Properties announced Tuesday.

The pad is located in the middle of the Spitbrook Road/Daniel Webster Highway retail block and is adjacent to Barnes & Noble.

Linear Retail’s new 12,000-square-foot retail development, Daniel Webster Shops, is directly north of the site, and the Shaw’s, Petsmart, Sports Authority, Marshalls commercial center is directly west.

Not Your Average Joe’s will take 7,100 square feet and operate on the Daniel Webster side of the pad building. Daniel Webster Plaza will be the first site in New Hampshire for the restaurant, which will offer 220 seats, a full bar and an outdoor patio.

Starbucks will open a 1,900-square-foot coffee house on the west side of the pad building.

Apple issues fix for security flaw

SAN FRANCISCO — Apple has issued fixes for a security flaw in its Macintosh computers that allows hackers to intercept data such as email, patching a major and embarrassing glitch that came to light several days ago.

The security update for users of Apple’s OS X computer operating software follows a fix issued for iPhones last week, meaning all Apple device users now have access to the patch.

The flaw allowed attackers with access to a mobile user’s network, such as a shared unsecured wireless service offered by a cafe, to see or alter exchanges between the user and protected sites such as Google’s Gmail or Facebook.

Governments with access to telecom carrier data could do the same, experts said.

On Tuesday, Apple said in a statement that the Mac security update also improved features such as its FaceTime videoconferencing service and email.


Consumer Reports releases list of top vehicles of 2014

DETROIT — Luxury brands scored highest in Consumer Reports’ annual car brand report card, released Tuesday, while problems with infotainment systems continue to plague some brands, including Ford and Cadillac.

The publication once again named Lexus as the best all-round brand, followed by Acura and Audi, based on the publication’s road tests, reliability survey data and independent safety tests.

“A lot can go wrong when building cars packed with luxury features,” said Jake Fisher, director of Consumer Reports automotive testing. “It’s impressive to have three luxury brands score top marks when reliability is one of the defining factors.”

Of General Motors’ four brands, Cadillac scored lowest and dropped six places from a year ago to land in the bottom five.

Japanese automakers took seven of the top eight spots, while Ford and Jeep tied for the lowest score at 50. Most domestic brands were in the middle of the pack. Dodge and Chevrolet were also in the bottom five.
