Barrington man dies while snowshoeing in Tuftonboro

TUFTONBORO – A 70-year-old Barrington man who was snowshoeing with his wife on Mount Tate died Monday morning, according to a release from the N.H. Fish and Game Department.
Richard W. West was with his wife, Joyce, on the Red-Green Trail on Mount Tate, approximately two miles from the trailhead at the intersection of Route 171 and Sodom Road.
A call for help was placed shortly after 11 a.m., and personnel from the Tuftonboro and Ossipee Corner Fire Departments as well as Fish and Game conservation officers and personnel from Stewarts Ambulance service responded.
There was no word on the cause of death.
