Laconia, Concord men charged with Belmont stabbing attack

JOHN DROUIN

ROBERT RAMA

BELMONT – A Laconia man and a Concord man were arrested Monday afternoon with the help of federal law enforcement officials and charged with stabbing two men in an early morning attack at a residence on Daniel Webster Highway, police said.

John Drouin, 27, of Laconia, and Robert Rama, 21, of Concord, were arrested at a residence on Union Avenue in Laconia at approximately 2 p.m. by Belmont police with the assistance of a U.S. Marshall Joint Fugitive Task Force.

Drouin was charged with two counts of first-degree assault involving a deadly weapon and one charge of simple assault. Rama faces one charge of criminal liability for conduct of another and one charge of second-degree assault.

Police were called at 1:04 a.m. to Apartment 1 at 252 Daniel Webster Highway for the reported stabbings. Police Chief Mark Lewandowski said one man was coming out of a common bathroom when he was attacked.

Police said Corey Cromwell, age not given, of 252 Daniel Webster Highway was stabbed in the neck, throat and upper torso.

Cromwell was still being treated late Monday afternoon at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for multiple stab wounds, according to police. Hospital officials would not release further details about his condition.

Also attacked was John Hynes of Laconia, who was taken to Lakes Region General Hospital. Police and hospital officials would not release details of his condition.

A woman who witnessed the attack was cut in the hand, police said.

Immediately on arrival at the scene, police searched the area but did not find the two assailants.

A motor vehicle stopped on Daniel Webster Highway was impounded for investigatory purposes. The driver and passenger were questioned and later released.

Belmont police contacted the U.S. Marshal's Joint Fugitive Task Force for assistance in locating Drouin and Rama. At approximately 2 p.m., officers entered a residence on Union Avenue in Laconia and arrested both men.

Drouin refused the services of a bail commissioner, and Rama was held on $50,000 cash. Both suspects were transported to the Belknap County Jail where they were held for arraignment at an unspecified time.

Assisting Belmont police in the investigation are New Hampshire State Police and officers from Laconia, Gilford, Tilton and Northfield police departments. Anyone with information about the stabbings is urged to call Detective Raechel Moulton or Sgt. Adam C. Hawkins at 267-9350.
