Grant will address invasive plants in Salem's Arlington Pond

SALEM — A grant submitted by the Arlington Pond Protective Association will help address the problem of invasive aquatic plants in the pond.

Selectmen recently agreed to let Town Manager Keith Hickey sign a contract on behalf of the town for the grant.

The total amount of the grant is just under $20,000, with the town covering 60 percent of the cost and the state paying for 40 percent.

However, the Arlington Pond Protective Association has agreed to pay for the town’s portion of the grant.

The money would be used to help remove the invasive aquatic species of European naiad and fanwort from the pond.

The work would be done under the oversight of the protective association later this year.
